We’re pleased to announce that Bridge to Everywhere has been named the Ensemble-in-Residence at Mount Saint Mary’s University (MSMU). As part of the Music Department’s Artist-in-Residence program, Bridge to Everywhere will hold public performances on the MSMU Chalon and Doheny campuses and provide educational activities including workshops and open rehearsals. “Bridge to Everywhere is honored to begin a residency at Mount Saint Mary’s University. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to share our work and collaborative strategies with students on campus,” said Bridge to Everywhere’s Artistic Director, Derrick Spiva Jr. “Our artistic and educational activities aim to prepare and encourage the next generation of musicians to thrive in an increasingly interconnected global community.”
Established in 1925, the Mount Saint Mary’s University Music Department offers a major in music with emphases in music performance, music education, music therapy and music industry. In addition to a wealth of music-related resources, students, faculty, and guest artists affiliated with the Department have access to two of Los Angeles’ finest performance venues: the Chalon Campus’ historic Mary Chapel and the Doheny Mansion’s Pompeian Room. “Bridge to Everywhere’s mission dovetails perfectly with the educational goals of MSMU,” said MSMU Associate Professor of Music Julius Carlson. “We are excited and honored to host the ensemble on our campus, and invite students from across the LA area to join us as we make music together!”
During the residency, the Music Department’s instrumental ensemble, Bridge Orchestra, will be led by Derrick Spiva Jr. “We are excited to have MSMU students making music with Derrick and the Bridge to Everywhere musicians,” said Therese Fassnacht, PhD, Music Department Chair. “This residency offers unique performance and professional development opportunities for students and greatly enhances the artistic life of the University.”
Keep an eye out for our upcoming MSMU residency events during the 2019-2020 season. We’re looking forward to working with students, making music together, and sharing our artistic work with the community!
